Was it one of your new year’s resolutions to get fit but you don’t want to join a gym or a health club? Whether it’s too expensive, there isn’t something close to you, your schedule is hard to work around, or you just like to be by yourself when working out, there are alternatives for you if you’re looking to get fit in the new year.

While it may seem easy to head to your basement and get a good workout in, that isn’t always the case. Our personal lives can create distractions that won’t allow for getting in a good workout at home. From kids, pets, spouses, or even work, there are so many things that could interrupt your at-home workout. So, if you’re looking to start working out at home but you aren’t sure how to get in a good workout, keep reading – this one is for you!

3 Tips for getting a good workout at home:

1.   Set up a dedicated workout space

The easiest way to get a good at-home workout is to make sure you have a dedicated space for working out. Whether it be the extra bedroom you aren’t using or a corner in your basement, if you have a space for working out where all your equipment is, you’re more likely to actually workout, and get a good sweat in. Think about it – if you had to constantly put your weights or equipment away every time because you need that space for something else, would you really do it? Having a dedicated workout space will make things easier.

 2.   Schedule your workouts

The whole reason you’re working out at home is that your schedule may not allow time during the day to work out, then you have family obligations when the workday is over. Scheduling your workouts each day is a great way to make sure you set aside time for a good workout. Look at your week/day and see when you have 30 to 45 minutes of free time and set that as your workout time. This will allow you to break up your day and get a good workout in! Sometimes the best recipe for success is to do your workout first thing in the morning- before life starts getting in the way, take that quiet time in the early morning just for yourself. A good motto for success is the do what you don’t want to do first!

3.   Find the right program for you

There are thousands of different options out there when it comes to workout plans and diet programs. Take the time to try different ones and see which one works for you. Everyone’s preferences are different, and you may like a different type of workout than your friends. No matter what kind of workout you prefer, there is something out there for you! From Optavia, YouTube routines, P90X, Peloton, etc., make sure you find what you love and can do from home.
